Grape variety: Primitivo

Vines age: 40 years old

Production area: the Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C. area, provinces of Taranto and Brindisi. Very red soil rich in iron oxides upon a layer of calcareous rock.

Vinification: collection by hand of slightly overripe grapes, de-stemming and crushing, skin contact at controlled temperature for 10-12 days with regular pumping overs. Draining off and malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing: in new French oak barriques for 12 months

Tasting notes: deep ruby red with garnet highlights; complex bouquet with hints of ripe red fruit, plum jam, vanilla and cacao. A full-bodied wine, velvety, with a persistent aftertaste releasing notes of chocolate.

Best served with: meat with savoury sauces, roast meats and mature cheese.

Serving temperature: 18°C.

Alcohol level: 14,50%vol.
